A woman recently shared on Reddit how her mother-in-law — a nurse — “ruined” her birth experience and is now blaming her for it.

According to the post, the mother-in-law works part-time at the hospital where the woman gave birth but happened to be off duty when labor started. Despite this, the mother-in-law learned about the birth through a friend of the woman’s sister-in-law who saw her at the hospital.

When the mother-in-law found out the woman was in labor, she “went nuclear,” sending furious texts to both the woman and her husband, upset that she hadn’t been notified sooner.

“She said, ‘All of our family is dead to you anyways,’” the woman writes. She adds that her mother-in-law then sent a “barrage of insults” to her family, accusing them of being secretive and terrible people for not informing her about the active labor.

The woman also reveals that her mother-in-law has started spreading lies about her on Facebook, labeling her as “toxic.”

“My husband and I’s memory of my child’s birthday will be tainted with my MIL’s drama and it breaks my heart because it was meant to be special,” she explains. “It will always be special, but it’s just a bit sad now, if that makes sense?”

Several Reddit users responded, saying the mother-in-law clearly overstepped her boundaries.

One commenter wrote, “She didn’t just ruin your birth experience, she declared war on your boundaries and now she’s playing victim because she lost access.”

Another added, “Well. She just lost access to her grandchild for life.”
