New details have come out about a 32-year-old man who died after riding a roller coaster in Florida.
The rider, Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, was found unresponsive after riding the Stardust Racers roller coaster at the Universal Epic Universe theme park in Orlando on Wednesday, Sept. 17. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
An autopsy showed he died from “multiple blunt impact injuries,” according to the Chief Medical Examiner for Orange and Osceola counties. His death was ruled an accident.
In an incident report obtained by PEOPLE, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said officials were told Zavala had a preexisting spinal injury and had been taking medication. Photos posted on a GoFundMe to support his family showed him using a wheelchair.
A non-emergency call from the Orange County Fire Rescue Department shared with PEOPLE said officials were asked to respond to a patient who had a laceration. When they arrived, Zavala was not breathing, and CPR was already being performed.
He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital just after 10:00 p.m. local time. A deputy also transported his girlfriend of about 10 years to the hospital, according to the report.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, park officials and local authorities said the ride was working properly.
“Our internal findings to date confirm that the ride systems functioned as intended, equipment was intact at the ride’s start, throughout the duration of the ride and upon the ride vehicle’s return to the station, and our Team Members followed procedures,” Universal Orlando Resort President and COO Karen Irwin said in a letter obtained by NBC affiliate WESH.
NBC Miami reported that investigators with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services also found that the ride was working correctly.
Zavala was remembered by loved ones as having a “heart full of compassion, love, and understanding.”
“Kevin was truly one of a kind. He had an old soul—wise beyond his years,” his family wrote on GoFundMe. “He was the kind of person who always made time to listen, offer thoughtful advice, and lift others up, even when he was facing challenges of his own.”
“His presence lit up every room, and his absence leaves a space no one can fill,” the message continued.
