A baby squirrel is getting a second chance thanks to a quick response from animal control in California.

According to a Facebook post from the Alameda Police Department, an officer was dispatched to the intersection of Fairview Avenue and High Street after someone reported finding an abandoned newborn squirrel.

The tiny squirrel was discovered alone on the ground and appeared to have fallen from a nearby tree.

“The little one likely fell from its nest which was perched high in a nearby tree,” the department explained.

The squirrel is now in the care of Yggdrasil Urban Wildlife Rescue, where it will be rehabilitated until it’s ready to return to the wild.
