A nurse in England has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the willful neglect and mistreatment of teenage patients under her care.
Emma Sinclair, 30, received the sentence at Southampton Crown Court on Monday, Nov. 3, after pleading guilty to three counts of ill-treatment and willful neglect, according to a news release from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
At the time of the offenses — which occurred on Feb. 6, 2024 — Sinclair was employed as a community nurse working with children. The release did not disclose specific details of the incidents, though the BBC reported that she was supporting children with cancer when the crimes took place.
Lead police investigator Rebecca Stevens said, “I am pleased for the young victims and their families that justice has now been served and that they can now attempt to move on with their lives, knowing that Sinclair is in prison and can no longer harm any other vulnerable child.”
During sentencing, the judge remarked that Sinclair “lacked genuine remorse” and emphasized that “this court cannot overlook the seriousness of this matter,” according to the release.
In addition to her prison term, Sinclair received a 10-year restraining order prohibiting her from contacting the victims.
