The estate of the late O.J. Simpson has formally accepted a major creditor claim from Fred Goldman — more than three decades after a civil jury found the former NFL star liable for the wrongful death of Fred’s son, Ron Goldman.

According to court documents filed Friday, Nov. 14, in Clark County District Court in Nevada, the approved claim totals $57,997,858.12, with additional judgment interest still to be determined. The filing was submitted by the estate’s executor, Malcolm LaVergne.

Fred Goldman originally petitioned for more than $117 million. LaVergne noted that while Goldman’s interest calculations were made “in good faith,” the figures were not accurate. He said he intends to work with Goldman to establish a more precise total.

LaVergne also told TMZ that the estate will continue auctioning off property to satisfy the debt. He claimed some items tied to Simpson have gone missing and said he is pursuing legal action to recover them. He additionally plans to request that the court award Goldman a fee for assisting with estate matters.

The Goldman family’s attorney, Michaelle Rafferty, said the acceptance of the claim simply acknowledges the legal debt — not payment — and allows the matter to move forward in probate.

Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of the stabbing murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, 35, and Ron Goldman, 25. However, in 1997, the Brown and Goldman families won a civil judgment awarding them more than $33 million. Only a small portion of that amount was ever collected.

Simpson died in April 2024 at age 76 from cancer, still owing the families a substantial balance.

Following his death, Fred Goldman said the moment only underscored the family’s long-standing grief. “This is just a reminder for us of how long Ron has been gone, how long we have missed him,” he said at the time. “There is nothing today that is more important than the loss of my son and the loss of Nicole.”
