One Adult, One Teen Dead After Fiery Crash Injures Multiple Others

One child and one adult died in a late-night crash that left several others injured in Mesa, Ariz., on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The collision happened just before 12:30 a.m. on Southern Avenue near Dobson Road, Arizona Republic reports. Police said a vehicle traveling west struck the rear of a second car that was pulling out from a private driveway. After the impact, the second vehicle caught fire, authorities confirmed to the outlet.

The driver of the westbound vehicle died at the scene. A 17-year-old passenger in the second vehicle also died, according to local outlet Arizona’s Family.

Mesa Police Department Detective J. Dreyer later identified the driver of the first vehicle as Dominique Bowie, 39, Arizona Republic reported on Dec. 14.

Three officers were hurt while responding to the scene, though their injuries were described as minor, and they were released from the hospital, per the outlet.

“Mesa Fire & Medical credited their actions with preventing further loss of life,” police told local outlet 12 News. Investigators also said the westbound truck was speeding, according to the outlet.

The identity of the 17-year-old victim has not yet been publicly released. Police confirmed to Arizona Republic that no charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
