Human skeletal remains were discovered while a realtor was showing a Texas property to a prospective buyer, authorities said.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said the remains were located in the 10600 block of FM 1346 near Adkins around 1:45 p.m. local time on Friday, Dec. 5, according to local reports.
The sheriff explained that the realtor had been showing the two-acre property, listed at $170,000, when they spotted the remains and contacted law enforcement.
Salazar noted that the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, which is making identification challenging. The remains were found in a wooded area of the property, about 50 yards off the road, and are believed to belong to an adult.
“We are looking to see if there are any missing persons reports in the area, because it appears this person has been here for quite some time,” Salazar said.
Personal items were also found near the remains, according to the sheriff, but no weapons were recovered at the scene.
“There are some indicators nearby that this could quite possibly be a suicide, but we don’t want to jump to any conclusions too early,” Salazar added.
An investigation into the circumstances of the death is ongoing. Homicide detectives responded to the scene the same day the remains were found, and authorities are working to determine whether any foul play was involved. However, Salazar said there was no immediate evidence suggesting such at this time.
“We’ve got some work ahead of us, but I’m pretty confident we’re going to be able to find out who this person is sooner rather than later,” the sheriff said.
