Rob and Michele Reiner’s Children Jake and Romy Share Heartbreak: ‘They Were Our Best Friends’

Jake and Romy Reiner, two of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s children, have released a statement following their parents’ deaths.

“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” the siblings said in a statement. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

They continued, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”

Their brother, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege he fatally stabbed both of their parents inside their Los Angeles home during the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 14, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

A source familiar with the investigation said the couple were killed and later found in their bedroom.

The New York Times previously reported that the couple’s daughter Romy found her father’s body after a massage therapist said she was unable to reach her parents. Romy reportedly left the house without realizing her mother had also been stabbed and later learned that detail from a paramedic, according to the Times.

Nick Reiner was arrested Sunday, several hours after his parents were found. He is being held without bail.

Multiple sources have also said Rob and Nick Reiner had a “very loud argument” at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien just hours before the alleged killings.

“Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous,” one source said.

Rob and Michele Singer Reiner married in 1989 after meeting while he was directing When Harry Met Sally. Reiner later directed films including The Princess Bride and A Few Good Men, and appeared on the landmark sitcom All in the Family.

Before marrying Michele, Reiner adopted Tracy, the daughter of his first wife, Penny Marshall.
