Nick Reiner was reportedly not at the Brentwood home of his late parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, when their bodies were discovered.

Reiner, 32, allegedly left the residence and traveled a short distance before police located him near the University of Southern California campus, ABC News reported. Authorities were able to find him “quickly” in the area, the outlet said, and he was arrested on suspicion of murder at about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.

A public information officer for the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that Reiner was arrested in the Exposition Park area near USC. The University of Southern California has been contacted for comment.

Police previously said Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead inside the home on Sunday afternoon. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers discovered their bodies at approximately 3:40 p.m. that day, and Reiner was later identified as a suspect. He was taken into custody on Dec. 14, hours after the discovery.

Reiner was booked on murder charges in connection with his parents’ deaths and is being held without bond at Los Angeles’ Twin Towers Jail. He is expected to appear in court on Tuesday, Dec. 16, according to a source.

The night before the killings, Reiner and his parents attended a holiday party hosted by Conan O’Brien, where Reiner and Rob Reiner reportedly had a “big fight,” according to two sources who said they were present. One of the sources described Reiner as behaving erratically and repeatedly asking people whether they were famous.

Rob and Michele Reiner married in 1989 and shared three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob Reiner was previously married to Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981, and during that marriage he adopted her daughter, Tracy.

Reiner has spoken publicly in the past about struggling with addiction and homelessness beginning in his teens. In a 2016 interview, he said he moved in and out of rehab starting around age 15, and that as his addiction worsened, he became increasingly estranged from home and spent long periods living unhoused in multiple states.
