John Stamos isn’t hiding his feelings when it comes to Lori Loughlin’s recent split from her husband of nearly three decades, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli.

During a candid conversation on the Good Guys podcast on Monday, Oct. 20, the 62-year-old actor reflected on his decades-long friendship with Loughlin, 61 — who famously played Aunt Becky, the love interest of his character Uncle Jesse, on Full House.

“I’m just heartbroken for her right now,” Stamos said of the actress’s separation after 28 years of marriage. “She’s just devastated. For a girl who has lived her life really well — a good person, a good mother, a good wife — to be thrown into this separation and have her family explode this way… I just hate to see her go through it.”

Stamos shared that he has “really tried to be there for her during this time, and also with the college scandal,” referencing when Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty in 2020 to paying $500,000 to secure their daughters, Olivia Jade, 26, and Isabella, 27, admission into the University of Southern California as fake crew recruits.

He recalled texting Loughlin shortly after news of the federal investigation broke — when she wasn’t yet aware that the story was airing “on every channel.” That was the last time he heard from her for a while, he said.

In May 2020, both Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to wire and mail fraud. Loughlin served two months in federal prison, completing her sentence in December 2020, while Giannulli served five months.

According to Stamos, he’s stood by his longtime friend throughout it all — and he hasn’t been shy about his opinion of Giannulli’s role in her troubles.

“I said, ‘Look, all the negativity or hardships you’ve gone through in your life are connected to this guy,’” Stamos recalled telling her. “Whatever he did to her, it busted her up to the core. She put up with a lot over the years. She’s an angel — she always made things better, cleaned everything up. He’s a very successful dude, but…”

As for his relationship with Giannulli, Stamos was direct: “I will never talk to him again.”

“He’s a terrible narcissist, and I don’t think you ever get out of that unless you’re able to,” he said. “I pray for this guy. I pray that he gets a hold of whatever hole he’s trying to fill. I pray he realizes what he had — everything anyone could ever hope for — and that he gets help. This guy needs help.”
