A potential security threat near the White House was swiftly neutralized on Sunday after a man scaled a fence and dropped a suspicious package near the U.S. Treasury Building, prompting a rapid response from the Secret Service and a bomb squad.
According to a statement from the U.S. Secret Service, the incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. on July 27, 2025, when a suspect jumped a fence on the southeast side of the Treasury Building—located directly adjacent to the White House—and dropped a bag on the sidewalk nearby.

Officers from the Secret Service Uniformed Division quickly apprehended the individual, while the Metropolitan Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was dispatched to inspect the suspicious package. Authorities confirmed the item was safely cleared.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital for a medical evaluation. He is facing charges of unlawful entry and is also wanted on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction.
Ongoing Concerns After Past Attempts on President Trump’s Life
The latest incident comes amid continued concerns over the safety of President Donald Trump, who survived two assassination attempts during his 2024 campaign.
On July 13, 2024, Trump was shot in the ear during a campaign rally at the Butler Farm Show Grounds in Pennsylvania. The gunman fired multiple rounds from a rooftop before being killed by law enforcement. Trump’s iconic image, raising his fist with blood on his face while shouting “Fight, fight, fight,” became a defining moment in the campaign.

Tragically, Corey Camperatore, a former fire chief who was attending the rally with his family, was fatally shot while shielding his loved ones.
Just three months later, another plot was uncovered when Secret Service agents spotted the barrel of a rifle emerging from a bush while Trump was golfing at his West Palm Beach club. The suspect, 59-year-old Ryan Routh, attempted to flee but was quickly arrested and charged with attempted assassination, assault on a federal officer, and multiple firearms offenses. He is currently set to represent himself in court.
As Sunday’s incident highlights, authorities remain on high alert, particularly in light of the violent threats President Trump has faced in recent years. The Secret Service has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of the President and protecting national security.
