Sen. Cory Booker is officially engaged.
The 56-year-old Democratic senator from New Jersey shared the news on Instagram Tuesday, Sept. 2, posting photos from his beach proposal to Alexis Lewis.
“Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life. She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love,” Booker wrote. “I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!”
Booker also praised his fiancée, whose Instagram account is private.
“I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée,” he said. “We are excited for this journey ahead, having so much fun, and feeling deeply grateful for the love, support, and energy so many of you have shared with us. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by such a beautiful community lifting us in love and commitment.”
In the photos, Booker wore a maile lei, while Lewis wore one made of plumerias. The couple smiled in every shot. One showed Booker pointing to Lewis’ engagement ring, another captured him proposing on one knee, and others featured the pair celebrating near the ocean.
Booker revealed last month that he was in a serious relationship, more than three years after his split from actress Rosario Dawson. PEOPLE confirmed the former couple ended their two-year relationship in February 2022.
While talking with Washington Examiner editor David Sivak on Aug. 21, Booker shared a lighthearted memory from one of his early dates with Lewis. She asked him to open his TikTok “For You” page.
“I sort of held my breath as I opened it up, and she could see that I’m a nerd who loves food videos, animal videos,” Booker recalled. “It was just a funny moment, because I never thought of it through the dating lens, but here it is, you know, a year and a half later, and we’re still together.”
Booker also revealed that he and Lewis live together in Washington.
