At least nine people — both adults and juveniles — were injured during a shooting at a large Airbnb rental home in Bath Township, Ohio, near Cleveland.

According to the Bath Township Police Department, the violence unfolded in the early hours of Nov. 2 when shots were fired at a party attended primarily by minors. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether all nine victims were struck by bullets or suffered other types of injuries.

Bath Police Chief Vito Sinopoli described the gathering as a “very large party” that had been widely promoted on social media, attracting a substantial crowd. “Our deepest sympathy goes out to the victims’ families and all those affected by this devastating incident,” Sinopoli said during a press conference shared by News 5 Cleveland.

Emergency responders from nearby departments assisted in transporting the victims to local hospitals, where their conditions continue to be monitored closely.

“This kind of violence is unacceptable in our community, and we’re committed to providing all available resources to this investigation,” Sinopoli said. “We’re actively gathering evidence, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing witnesses.”

Initial findings suggest that most of the gunfire occurred on the first floor of the large home located in the 900 block of Top O Hill Drive.

Authorities said the event, promoted online as a “birthday party,” began around 12:16 a.m. When shots were fired, many attendees fled the scene. First responders provided life-saving aid to the injured while securing the property to preserve evidence for investigators.

Sinopoli noted that Bath Township previously experienced another shooting at an Airbnb in July 2017, when one person sustained a leg wound. He emphasized that “no community is immune from violence” and confirmed that the township enforces zoning restrictions prohibiting short-term Airbnb rentals. He also said he was in contact with the property owners the morning after the incident.

“This is a community — violence is not commonplace here,” Sinopoli told News 5 Cleveland. “We do our very best to ensure the protection of our residents and business owners. When an incident like this occurs, we’re very upset about it. We’re going to do our very best to find out who’s responsible and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.”
