A 14-year-old boy in Missouri was killed after being struck by a stray bullet while playing video games in his bedroom, authorities said.
The victim, identified by local outlet KMOV as D’Uwan Morgan, was inside his St. Louis home on Hobkirk Drive on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 8, when the shooting occurred. Police responded to a 911 call around 6:10 p.m. and found the teen suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to a release from the St. Louis County Police Department. D’Uwan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said an unknown person or group had fired shots in the neighborhood, and D’Uwan was hit while inside his home. Regional outlets KOLD and WCNC reported that he was playing video games in his room when bullets came through the window, shattering it.
“He was minding his business, doing nothing. Just sitting in his room,” a family member told WCNC. “And now he’s gone.”
According to a GoFundMe page created in D’Uwan’s memory, his mother, Keshia Morgan, was home at the time of the shooting. Police said that multiple people in the area were firing guns at each other when one of the bullets struck D’Uwan. KOLD reported that several nearby homes were also hit, and one neighbor described seeing groups of people scatter after a burst of gunfire.
WCNC reported that the shooting followed an argument between two groups of teenagers outside. After shots were fired — one of which fatally hit D’Uwan — witnesses told police they saw several teens running from the scene.
The St. Louis County Police Department’s Bureau of Crimes Against Persons is investigating the killing as a homicide. As of Oct. 13, no arrests had been made, WCNC reported.

Just five months before his death, D’Uwan had graduated from middle school and had recently started high school. His family told WCNC that he was a sweet, intelligent teen who loved the outdoors, especially fishing.
In the GoFundMe description, Keshia wrote that her son was “a vibrant, caring young man with a bright future ahead of him.” She added, “This loss has left an indescribable void in our lives.”
D’Uwan’s aunt, Erica Davis, described him as “a beautiful, nice kid” and said his mother has been “completely broken” since the tragedy. “She hasn’t been eating. She hasn’t been sleeping,” Davis told WCNC. “This is a horrible nightmare.”
“My family will never be the same. We want justice for my nephew. He didn’t deserve to lose his life like this,” Davis said. “This is senseless. No child should die like this.”
She urged anyone with information to contact police. “You can stay anonymous,” Davis said. “Just help us. Help us get justice for D’Uwan.”
