Sydney Sweeney is putting long-running plastic surgery speculation to rest — and has a few words for people who have been scrutinizing how her face has changed over the years.
In a new Allure video conversation with her The Housemaid costar Amanda Seyfried, the 28-year-old was asked to pick one “beauty rumor” she wanted to clear up. Sweeney chose the chatter that she has “gotten work done” and shut it down directly.
“Let’s debunk them all,” she said, explaining that she’s never had any cosmetic procedures and that she’s genuinely “terrified of needles.”
The Euphoria and Anyone But You star, who started acting when she was a kid, also called out social media users who post side-by-side photos of her younger self next to recent red carpet or campaign shots. Comparing a 12-year-old with a fully grown woman in professional hair, makeup and lighting, she pointed out, is never going to be accurate — or fair. She joked that “everybody on social media’s insane” for expecting those images to look the same.
Seyfried, 40, gently added that some cosmetic treatments can be helpful “once you get older,” teasing that when Sweeney is ready, she should call her — and that she’d even provide a little Ativan to take the edge off. For now, though, Seyfried stressed that her costar doesn’t need anything done.

Sweeney agreed and used the moment to address another rumor: if she had work done, she said, “my face would be even.” Seyfried, confused, asked what she meant, which led Sweeney to share a story she hasn’t talked about much publicly.
As a child, Sweeney had a wakeboarding accident that left her needing 19 stitches on her face. Because of that injury, one of her eyes opens slightly more than the other. The difference is subtle, but it’s something she knows fans sometimes interpret as the result of cosmetic procedures rather than an old injury. Seyfried replied that she still doesn’t see any asymmetry, and noted that when it comes to cosmetic work, “there’s an art to it” — it’s not something that should be done “everywhere,” the way many people attempt.

This isn’t the first time Sweeney has opened up about criticism of her looks. In a recent interview with Variety, published on Oct. 27, she recalled being told to alter her face when she was still a teenager. Because her eyebrow muscles are naturally strong and expressive, someone once told the then-16-year-old that she needed to “fix” her face with Botox if she wanted a future in the industry.
Sweeney said she ignored that advice — and plans to keep doing so. She reiterated that she has never had any cosmetic treatments, has no tattoos because of her fear of needles, and intends to “age gracefully,” on her own terms and timeline.
