Golf legend Tiger Woods has announced he is stepping away from the sport to seek professional treatment following a DUI arrest last month. The decision follows a single-vehicle accident that has left the 50-year-old “embarrassed and ashamed,” according to sources close to the athlete.

The incident occurred on March 27, when Woods crashed his Range Rover on a two-lane road near his home on Jupiter Island. While a Breathalyzer test returned “triple zeroes”—indicating no alcohol was in his system—Martin County Sheriff’s deputies reported significant signs of impairment.

According to the probable cause affidavit, authorities observed Woods with “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and “extremely dilated” pupils. Law enforcement officials also recovered two hydrocodone pills from Woods’ pocket at the scene.

Bodycam footage obtained from the arrest captures a disoriented Woods questioning his detention. He was subsequently charged with:

  • DUI with property damage
  • Refusal to submit to a lawful urine test
  • Careless driving

Woods broke his silence on March 31, issuing a formal statement confirming his departure from the public eye to prioritize his health.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods stated. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

An internal source indicates that Woods is struggling with the public nature of the fallout. “Tiger can be defensive at times, but he was embarrassed and ashamed at the latest accident,” the source told reporters, adding that the golfer is highly motivated to “fix his problems” and return to a stable professional and personal life.

The 15-time major champion’s family, including his children, Sam and Charlie, and his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, are reportedly standing by him. Insiders suggest that Woods’ current struggles are exacerbated by years of chronic physical pain, which has significantly impacted his quality of life and reliance on medication.

Woods was released from the Martin County jail after posting bond. He has not provided a specific timeline for his return to professional golf, emphasizing that he is committed to the recovery process “however long that takes.”
