Triple Olympic champion Jessica Fox is recovering after undergoing an unexpected surgery.

On Thursday, Aug. 28, the 31-year-old athlete shared on Instagram that she had surgery to remove a tumor from her kidney.

“Life update ❤️‍🩹 I won’t be competing in the final World Cups over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be cheering from home instead!,” the Australian canoeist wrote alongside photos of herself in the hospital.

She explained, “Last week I had surgery to remove a tumour from my kidney. The surgery went really well and I’m on the mend.”

Fox thanked her medical team, naming doctors, nurses, and physios who helped her through the process. She also expressed gratitude to her family, friends, and the Australian paddling team for their support.

“It’s been a whirlwind over the last few weeks, but I’m all good — just a couple of new scars, a bit less kidney, and a whole lot more toughness 😉,” she added. “I’m feeling positive, super grateful and happy to be home. Looking forward to taking it easy over the next few weeks as I recover, and building towards being back on the water again 💛💪🏽.”

Many athletes and fans left supportive comments on her post. Her sister Noémie Fox, who is also an Olympic canoeist, left a heart emoji, while sprint canoeist Fernando Pimenta wrote, “Keep strong and speedy recovery. Good energy! 🙏🏼😉.” Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus also added, “Lots of love girlfriend ❤️.”

Fox shared more photos, including one of herself resting outside, a painting of two kidneys (one with plasters), and a picture of her dog keeping her company at home.
