Trump Approval Rating Rises Among Women, New Poll Shows

President Donald Trump’s approval rating among women has ticked up, according to a new poll from The Economist and YouGov released on Tuesday.

Why It Matters

Trump’s relationship with women voters remains a central factor as the U.S. moves toward the 2026 midterm elections. His approval among women has typically trailed his support with men, highlighting a persistent gender gap in views of his leadership and policies. Any movement in this group is especially significant in competitive states and tightly contested House districts.

Shifts in these numbers may also reflect how women are responding to Trump’s recent messaging and actions on key issues like the economy, trade and immigration—all of which are shaping the current political climate.

What To Know

In the latest survey, 38 percent of women said they approve of Trump’s job performance. Overall, the president’s approval rating sits at 41 percent, while 55 percent of respondents say they disapprove.

The poll surveyed 1,530 U.S. adults between December 5 and December 8 and has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.

Trump’s approval among women had been stuck below 38 percent for weeks. The last time he reached that level or higher was in a survey conducted from October 10 to October 13. More recently, his approval rating with women was 33 percent in last week’s poll and 31 percent the week before.

More broadly, Trump has been operating in a difficult polling environment. He recorded some of the lowest approval figures of his second term earlier this year, but his overall standing has recently shown signs of improvement. Even though his approval with women remains below 40 percent, the latest bump comes amid ongoing policy fights and volatile polling trends.

What People Are Saying

Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, wrote on X in October:

“The ‘experts’ have been underestimating @realDonaldTrump since 1985 – he knew then and he proved today why he is the ultimate deal maker. I believe he will leave office with the highest approval rating of any modern president…the first 9.5 months were just the beginning”

CNN Chief Data Analyst Harry Enten offered a sharply different view on X earlier this month, commenting on a separate Gallup survey:

“Gallup’s poll = disaster for Trump. Nixon’s the only prez with a worse net approval at this point in a 2nd term than him. Trump must break history for the GOP to keep House control in 2026. No 2nd term pres’ net approval rose more than 5 pts from this pt through the midterms.”

What Happens Next

Analysts will be watching to see whether Trump’s improved standing with women is a brief fluctuation or the beginning of a more durable trend. As debates over policy intensify and campaigning ramps up ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, future polls will help show whether this uptick among women holds, grows or fades.
