WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced that Coca-Cola has agreed to begin using real cane sugar in its U.S. products, a shift from the current use of high-fructose corn syrup.

“I’ve been in talks with Coca-Cola about using REAL cane sugar in Coke sold in the United States, and they’ve agreed,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I’d like to thank the leadership at Coca-Cola for making this decision. It’s going to be a great move — you’ll see. It’s just better.”

Currently, Coca-Cola products in the U.S. primarily use high-fructose corn syrup as a sweetener, according to the company’s website. By contrast, Coca-Cola in countries like Mexico and the U.K. is often made with cane sugar, which many consumers say gives it a cleaner, more authentic taste.

Trump’s announcement aligns with a broader push by his administration — led by Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — to encourage food manufacturers to use more natural ingredients. Several major companies, including J.M. Smucker Co., Kraft Heinz, and Nestlé, have pledged to remove artificial dyes and additives from their products over the coming years.

As part of that effort, Mars Inc. recently confirmed it had stopped using titanium dioxide — a whitening agent also found in toothpaste — in its popular candy Skittles.

Earlier this week, the White House celebrated commitments from more than two dozen food manufacturers who have promised to reformulate their products with cleaner, more transparent ingredients.

“This is about giving Americans better, safer, and more natural food choices,” Trump said. “And Coca-Cola’s move is a big step in the right direction.
