Valerie Bertinelli is embracing a fresh new vibe.
The actress and celebrity chef, 65, recently surprised her followers by revealing a vibrant blonde hairstyle on Instagram. In her selfie, she sports tousled loose waves, a bright golden-blonde tone, and a center part with darker roots visible underneath.

“New hair who dis?” she joked in the caption.

Bertinelli then clarified that the look wasn’t permanent — it was a wig styled by celebrity hair expert Chris Appleton, known for his work with stars such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.

Bertinelli has long been open about her relationship with gray hair. In an Instagram video last year, she posted what she called a “PSA about filters and gray roots,” addressing comments she’s received online regarding her hair and her use of filters.

“I’m filming with no filter today because some of y’all get really bent out of shape when I choose to use a filter,” she said, explaining that she alternates between filtered and unfiltered videos depending on her mood. “This is me with no makeup, and this is no filter.”

After one follower accused her of wearing a wig, she leaned forward and revealed her natural gray roots.

“Can you get me a wig without flipping gray roots then, please, because I’m tired of getting my roots done every two weeks,” she added. “Thank goodness 99.9 percent of you are really kind, sweet people and don’t give a flying flip whether I have roots or I put a filter on. But some of y’all need to chill out, ok? I mean seriously.”

More recently, Bertinelli spoke candidly about how her personal style has evolved over time. Earlier this month, she offered fans a behind-the-scenes look at her upcoming memoir, Getting Naked, sharing outtakes from the book’s photoshoot. In the images, she wears a white button-down shirt and tan stilettos — a contrast to the fully nude pose featured on the actual cover.

In her caption, she addressed the vulnerability it takes to “let it all hang out,” acknowledging the fear that can come with self-expression but insisting that such openness is exactly the point.

“When I feel that fear, I know it’s an opportunity to learn something,” she wrote. “The older I get, and the more I unearth and absorb, the better I get at how to process it. Consequently, the less scary it gets.”

She added that she’s now working daily on emotional regulation — recognizing which feelings belong to her and which are rooted in external opinions she no longer wants to hold onto.

“Every experience is an opportunity to learn more and I welcome them all,” she said, noting that she hopes her memoir will help readers navigate their own difficult experiences and come out stronger on the other side.
