Wanda Sykes and several other stars at the Golden Globe Awards used the red carpet to spotlight Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old woman who was killed in Minneapolis during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation.

Sykes, 61, arrived at the 83rd annual ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 11, wearing a white pin with black lettering that read “BE GOOD,” a reference to Good, who was fatally shot on Jan. 7 as ICE carried out large-scale raids in Minneapolis. The enforcement push followed intensified rhetoric from President Donald Trump and his administration about Somali immigrants. Minneapolis–St. Paul is home to the largest Somali population in the United States.

“Of course this is for the mother who was murdered by an ICE agent, and it’s really sad. I know people are out marching and all today, and we need to speak up,” Sykes told Variety on the red carpet ahead of the awards show. “We need to be out there and shut this rogue government down, because it’s just awful what they’re doing to people.”

An official description of the pin initiative says it “aims to honor Renee Macklin Good and Keith Porter while also reminding us what it means to be good to one another in the face of such horror – to be a good citizen, neighbor, friend, ally and human.” Keith Porter was a man who was killed by an off-duty ICE officer in Los Angeles on Dec. 31, according to multiple reports.

The campaign description also highlights everyday acts of support and solidarity: “Everyday, everywhere, regular people are being good: keeping kids safe when they walk to school, filming fathers who are being disappeared from their workplaces, donating to fundraisers to support organizations who are keeping us safe.” It adds that the #BeGood effort is launching after reports that 2025 was among ICE’s deadliest years in two decades, and in response to what it describes as the current administration’s $100 million wartime recruitment campaign aimed at expanding enforcement capacity.

Groups involved in organizing the #BeGood campaign include Marmot, Move On, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Working Families Power, along with “leaders from every sector of the entertainment industry,” according to a release. Mark Ruffalo and Jean Smart were also seen wearing the pins as they arrived for the ceremony.
