Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the 14-year-old whose body was discovered inside singer D4vd’s abandoned Tesla in Los Angeles, may have been dead for “several weeks,” according to investigators.
Police began looking into her death after her remains were found on September 8 inside the decomposing vehicle, which had been towed to a Hollywood yard.
Speaking to People, LAPD Capt. Scot M. Williams explained, “We know that the Tesla had been parked at the location from which it was towed for several weeks, so it is very likely Celeste Rivas Hernandez had been dead for several weeks prior to her body being discovered.”
He added that the Los Angeles County medical examiner has yet to determine a cause or manner of death, noting: “We don’t know for sure if anyone has any criminal culpability for her death beyond the concealment of her dead body.”
D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, has not been named a suspect. His team has said the TikTok-famous artist is cooperating with law enforcement as detectives continue to gather evidence.
Authorities searched his Hollywood Hills residence, seizing “several items of evidence” as investigators attempt to piece together the connection between the teenager and the singer.
Capt. Williams declined to detail the nature of their relationship, saying only, “We are looking into everything. As far as their relationship, it would be premature for me to say anything.”
Reports have suggested that D4vd previously dated a teenager named “Celeste,” with screenshots of old Discord messages pointing to that relationship. In addition, he referenced the name “Celeste” twice in an unreleased song. Her mother has also claimed that Celeste had been involved with someone named “David.”
