The White House is pushing back after The Daily Show aired a scathing segment criticizing President Trump’s recent comments surrounding the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein controversy.
On Monday night’s show, correspondent Jessica Williams mocked Trump for deflecting from the Epstein scandal by launching attacks on prominent Black public figures, including Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Trump is going to target every exceptional Black person he can think of,” Williams said, joking that it wouldn’t be surprising if he next went after Urkel, the beloved sitcom character from Family Matters.
White House Responds
White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields dismissed Williams’ remarks, telling The Independent, “Given that I had to Google who this person is, it’s no surprise she’d resort to outrageous commentary to insert herself into the news, as many irrelevant D-list celebrities do.”
“She may oppose tax cuts, a secure border, trade deals, ceasefires, and record job growth, but a majority of Americans voted for these policies and support this President,” Fields added.
The Daily Show declined to comment.
Trump Defends Himself Mid-Flight
The White House’s statement came just before President Trump, while flying home from a golf and trade trip to Scotland, responded to renewed scrutiny over his ties to Epstein.
When asked about Virginia Giuffre—who has accused Epstein and his associates of abuse—Trump claimed she was once employed at his Mar-a-Lago spa.
“I don’t know. I think she worked at the spa. I think so. He, he stole her. And by the way, she had no complaints about us, as you know. None whatsoever,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.
More Late-Night Fire
The following evening, Daily Show co-host Desi Lydic mocked Trump’s visit to his golf resorts in Scotland, quipping, “Trump is in Scotland right now, seeing as his favorite island destination has been shut down,” as a photo of Trump and Epstein flashed onscreen.
Meanwhile, President Trump reignited his feud with the late-night world on Truth Social, denying he was responsible for the recent cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert—before taking credit anyway.
“Everybody is saying I was solely responsible… That is not true!” Trump posted. “The reason he was fired was a pure lack of TALENT, and the fact that this deficiency was costing CBS $50 Million Dollars a year in losses.”
He then warned fellow late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon could be next. “The only real question is, who will go first?” he added.
Jon Stewart, host of The Daily Show, publicly defended Colbert following his show’s cancellation.
Epstein Case Still a Flashpoint
Behind the scenes, the administration continues damage control over the Epstein affair. Reports surfaced in May that Attorney General Pam Bondi informed Trump his name appeared in sealed court documents. The memo has since become a flashpoint within the GOP and among MAGA loyalists.
Adding fuel to the fire, Ghislaine Maxwell has offered to testify before Congress next month if her conviction is overturned. Her lawyers stated Tuesday that she would cooperate if a “fair and safe path” is established. She was subpoenaed by House Oversight Chair James Comer.
Despite mounting attention, Trump remains defiant. “All they know how to do is talk and think about conspiracy theories and nonsense,” he said Sunday during a bilateral meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “If they’d waste their time talking about America being great again, it would be so much nicer.”
