A husband has landed in trouble for ignoring his responsibilities as a new dog owner.

His wife shared on the community forum Mumsnet that she only agreed to let him get a puppy if he promised to be the dog’s main caregiver.

“My partner has been wanting a puppy for a while,” she wrote, explaining that they already have two other dogs — one elderly and another almost 2 years old. “I don’t mind him getting another pet as long as he takes care of it. We discussed this for months, and he agreed he would do most of the work with the new puppy, just like I do with mine.”

But soon after her husband brought home his “perfect dog,” the wife said he failed to follow through on his promise.

“She is beautiful and so loving, BUT [he has] yet to do anything with her,” she explained. “He’s only fed her once since she arrived. Everything else — feeding, playing, and walking — has been left to me.”

The issue came to a head after a recent incident. The woman said she and her daughter spent the night at her sister’s house and offered to take the dogs along. Her husband insisted he could handle them, but when she returned the next day, she discovered none of the dogs had been fed.

“I don’t agree with getting animals and then selling them, but I just don’t know what to do,” she admitted. Already juggling college classes and two other pets, she said her schedule is overwhelming without having to care for another puppy.

Mumsnet users overwhelmingly supported her. In a poll beneath the post, 92% of more than 500 voters said, “You are NOT being unreasonable.”

One commenter wrote, “He’s being unfair to you and the puppy. The puppy would be much better off with someone who loved and cared for it.” Another added, “I’d get rid of both him and the puppy as he sounds useless. He couldn’t even be bothered to feed an elderly dog and a young puppy?”

A third user summed it up bluntly: “You need to get rid of him.”
