A 20-year-old woman in Alpharetta, Georgia, is recovering in intensive care after being struck by a car while riding her bike beside her boyfriend — an impact that cost her a leg.

Chloe Garcia and her boyfriend were headed to a store around 6 a.m. on Oct. 30 when a black Mercedes-AMG reportedly hit her on New McFarland Road, according to her family.

“At the scene, her left leg was completely severed,” her sister, Kiara Ross, wrote on GoFundMe. “She lost so much blood that doctors said it’s a miracle she’s even alive today. Our family’s world shattered that morning.”

Garcia remains in the ICU at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Ross said her sister now faces “a long, painful road of surgeries, rehabilitation, and learning how to live with one leg.” The family is also demanding clarity about what led to the crash.

Ross alleges the driver was not cited at the scene and was not given a sobriety test. She said the family has so far received only a basic incident report that lists the driver’s name and the vehicle’s VIN number.

“It feels like her life didn’t matter to the system meant to protect her,” Ross said, adding that Garcia’s medical expenses have already passed $350,000. “Our family is seeking justice — but right now, we’re also just trying to survive.”

Beyond the immediate costs, Ross noted that Garcia will need long-term care, prosthetics, and therapy. Speaking with WTSP, she said Garcia has already undergone two surgeries, with another planned.

“I can’t even believe this is real life,” Ross told the outlet. “My sister’s only 20 years old, and now she has to go about her life with one leg.”

“She shouldn’t even be here,” she added. “Everyone says she’s a miracle. The fact that she’s still completely herself outside of losing her leg is nothing but God.”

Police are continuing to investigate the crash, WTSP reported. Garcia’s mother, Shanta Watson, said the family has struggled to get information since the incident and only learned what kind of vehicle was involved after hiring a lawyer.

“Somebody has to pay for this. This is not right,” Watson told WTSP. “My daughter was on the sidewalk. She wasn’t even on the street. She hasn’t even seen her 21st birthday. You’ve ruined her life, but yet you walk around like nothing happened.”
