A Florida man has been arrested on several charges after police say he fired 17 shots at a woman who accidentally walked up his driveway.
Roman Rawicki, 50, was taken into custody this week and charged with attempted murder, false imprisonment, criminal mischief, battery, and discharging a firearm on residential property, according to the Palm Bay Police Department.
The arrest affidavit says a woman was following an acquaintance home for the first time on Sunday when she got lost and stopped at Rawicki’s house in Palm Bay, about 75 miles southeast of Orlando.
She told police that after realizing she was at the wrong address, Rawicki grabbed her arm and wrist, twisting her arm behind her back against her will. The affidavit identifies her as TP. She managed to call the person she had been following, identified as WP, who ran to help her.
At that point, Rawicki allegedly threw her to the ground, pulled out a gun, and fired multiple times toward the two as they got into her vehicle. Police said the car was struck several times, and investigators found 17 shell casings in front of the home.
Rawicki later told police he thought the woman was a s** worker and said he attacked her out of concern for his wife’s safety. However, officers said video footage showed the woman walking up to the residence in a “non-threatening manner” before the confrontation.
On a recorded 911 call, Rawicki admitted to being the shooter. He told dispatchers there was a “no soliciting” sign on his property and that he understood the woman had arrived by mistake.
Police reported that the woman suffered bruises to her arm and wrist, and her bracelet was broken during the struggle. Her car also had a flat tire and other damage from the shooting.
Rawicki was released on bond Wednesday under conditions that prohibit him from contacting the victims or possessing firearms, weapons, or ammunition. He could not be reached at a phone number listed for him, and his attorney did not respond to requests for comment.
