A 29-year-old woman sought advice online after discovering her boyfriend, 31, had edited one of her photos and temporarily blocked her from seeing his Instagram Stories.

In her Reddit post, she explained that the couple had just celebrated their one-year anniversary. “It was absolutely perfect,” she wrote. “He planned a whole night, gave me a gift and flowers, and couldn’t stop telling me how beautiful I was.”

The next evening, they went out with his family, during which he took several photos of her. Later that night, she realized he had blocked her from viewing his Instagram Stories. When she confronted him, he unblocked her but didn’t explain why.

Upon checking his story, she saw he had posted one of her photos — but noticed that her hips looked more rounded and her waist slimmer. “It was really only one side that looked edited,” she said. “It was minimal, but I asked if he edited it.”

Initially, he avoided the question and suggested she was just upset about being blocked. He eventually claimed he only blocked her because he thought she’d be “annoyed” that he was posting about her too often — a justification she didn’t believe.

“He’s not someone who posts much, and even if he did, why would I care?” she wrote, adding that he later admitted, “My bad, I f—-d up,” before sending a late-night apology. “I don’t even know what to say to him because why would he do that?” she continued.

The woman revealed that her boyfriend knows she has struggled with an eating disorder and body image issues, and that she’s been going through a particularly difficult time lately. “This has just added to my body image issues,” she said. “I was so anxious last night — crying and throwing up. I feel like he doesn’t like my body. The thought of him touching or looking at me makes me sick.”

In the comments, many users expressed support and urged her to prioritize her well-being. “Editing your body and blocking you from seeing it is shady and hurtful, especially knowing your struggles,” one commenter wrote. “You deserve someone who makes you feel loved as you are.” Another advised her to end the relationship and keep records of their messages “in case he tries to twist the story.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with an eating disorder, The Alliance for Eating Disorders provides a fully-staffed helpline at 1-866-662-1235, as well as free, therapist-led support groups.
