Woman Says Neighbor’s Dog Pees on Her Porch Every Morning, but Owner Does Nothing

A woman turned to the Reddit community for guidance after repeatedly dealing with her neighbor’s dog leaving urine on her porch — and feeling unsure whether she should confront the situation.

She and her boyfriend had recently settled into a townhouse in what she described as a charming, peaceful neighborhood. Because they felt lucky to have found an affordable home there, she wanted to avoid creating conflict.

Initially, she tried to brush off the issue. “Every single morning my neighbor’s dog (two townhouses over) comes unleashed and pees on my porch,” she shared. At first, it wasn’t much of a concern because the dog was relieving itself on some dead bushes.

But once maintenance removed the bushes, the problem grew. “Since then, the dog has started peeing directly on my door and my welcome mat,” she wrote. When she discovered dried urine absorbed into her mat, she had no choice but to throw it out — a disappointing result since it was one she really liked.

Hoping for a fresh start, she bought a new mat — only to discover via her camera footage that the dog had immediately soiled that one too.

The situation became more worrying when the unleashed dog rushed toward her pets. One morning, as she cracked open the door to let her cats look outside, the dog sprinted up and scared them. She was able to shut the door quickly, but the close call made her uneasy.

Despite her frustration, she struggled with the idea of approaching the neighbor. She said she disliked complaining and didn’t want to damage the friendly atmosphere of the community. Still, she felt it was unfair that the dog was allowed to roam freely and make a mess on her property.

Her boyfriend and family weren’t entirely sympathetic. They told her that speaking up might make her seem like “a Karen,” and that she’d be labeled a neighborhood villain for trying to dictate where a dog can go.

She disagreed with that perspective. “Personally, I think it’s reasonable to knock on the guy’s door and nicely ask if he can stop letting his dog pee on my stuff,” she wrote in the post.

Asking Reddit if she would be in the wrong for addressing the issue, she received an overwhelming amount of support.

One commenter said: “NTA. Send an email to your landlord with the video attached and ask him to take appropriate action. The dog is costing you money and scaring your animals. You don’t need to be nice about it.”

Another person suggested confronting the neighbor directly or shooing the dog away — and jokingly added that if nothing changed, she could “save your pee pee in bottles and pour them on and at their front door in the night so they also have a pissed on door mat in the mornings.”
