A woman says she “really” likes the new man in her life — but she’s struggling with the state of his “filthy” home.

She shared her story on the “Am I Being ‘Unreasonable?’ forum at the U.K.-based site Mumsnet.com, where users often seek advice about personal dilemmas. In her post, the woman described the man she’s dating as “lovely.”

“We really hit it off and have a lot in common. He treats me well and puts in a lot of effort,” she wrote.

But when she visited his home for the first time, she admitted she was “gutted” by what she found.

“It was filthy. Picture dirty, grimy and sticky,” she explained, adding that he has two dogs who climb on all the furniture, leaving “dog hairs everywhere.”

“The bathrooms were especially awful,” she added, noting that the smell of dog urine lingered throughout the house.

“I kept my socks on while I was there, but he was walking around barefoot and his feet were black! The back garden was a mess too […],” she said.

She confessed that the thought of returning to his house makes her “skin crawl.” Although he acknowledged the problem and told her he’s trying to “sort it out,” she isn’t sure he’s serious about “tackling the mess.”

“WTF do I do?” she asked in her post. “I really like this guy, and aside from this one issue, he’s great!”

Most commenters, however, weren’t optimistic. Many warned that his habits were a clear dealbreaker.

“You are not compatible. It is a massive issue,” one person said.

“Gross. You’re not compatible. He’s not a project for you to fix. This is who he is. Dump him,” another wrote.

Others pointed out that his approach to cleanliness might reflect deeper issues.

“You say ‘aside from this one issue,’ but I’d be very surprised if his laziness and very low standards don’t surface in other areas of his life and personality, too,” one commenter noted.
