A woman is speaking out after discovering a stranger had secretly filmed her at an airport.
The woman, who goes by Toluwa, told CNN she was waiting for her flight in a Washington, D.C., lounge when a man approached and struck up a conversation. After chatting, he asked for her number — and she gave it to him.
But when she got home and checked social media, she found something alarming: videos of him approaching women at airports, recorded with smart glasses.
“I creeped, I found his TikTok. I found out that he does these ‘rizz’ videos,” Toluwa, who only goes by her first name for privacy reasons, said.
Eventually, she realized the man had recorded their own conversation as well. He reached out over text, sending her the footage and trying to persuade her to give permission to post it.
Despite her refusal, the man posted the video on social media anyway.
“It blows up and to the point where people are sending me this video,” Toluwa said. “Someone came up to me in Union Market, which is a large space in DC, and shoved it in my face and was like, is this you?”
CNN reached out to Meta about the incident. The company explained that its smart glasses include an LED light that activates whenever content is captured and feature tamper-detection technology to prevent users from covering the light.
“As with any recording device, including phones, people should use smart glasses in a safe, respectful manner,” the statement said.
Meta also acknowledged that a small number of users misuse the products despite these measures and noted that its terms of service explicitly prohibit using the glasses for “harassment, infringing privacy rights, or capturing sensitive information.”
