A woman on Reddit sought advice after a first date that left her feeling dismissed and disrespected. In her post, she explained that she met a man online, and they chose to meet for dinner. While waiting for their food, he commented that she was “bigger than what he usually prefers,” a remark that immediately soured the mood.

She recalled thinking, “If I’m not your preference, why agree to a date?” Although he tried to soften the comment by saying he thought she was pretty, the uncomfortable tone had already been set.

Trying to stay polite, she pushed forward with conversation. When he asked about her interests, she shared her love for drawing and painting and her dream of exhibiting her work in major galleries someday. Instead of offering encouragement, he dismissed her passion entirely.

He questioned her practical judgment, suggesting most artists “don’t go far” — at least not until after they’re gone. She defended her ambitions, noting that society’s disregard for art is exactly why the world is increasingly “grey and beige.”

Later, their conversation turned to marriage and family. She told him she’d be open to marriage with the right partner, but she didn’t want children. That, she said, was the moment he decided to offer yet another judgment.

He called it a red flag for a woman not to want kids. At that point, she’d had enough. She told him directly that they weren’t compatible, asked for the check, packed up her food, paid for herself, and left.

That night, he texted an apology — one that only made things worse. He asked if it was the weight comment that upset her and accused her of being “too sensitive.” She blocked him, though she admitted later that a tiny part of her wondered whether she had overreacted.

Reddit commenters overwhelmingly affirmed her decision. One person summed it up perfectly: “Three strikes and he’s out. The weight comment. The artist insult. The kid comment. Bye.”

In a follow-up, the woman clarified that she has nothing against children. She simply knows her own limits — and what she wants for her life.
