A year after a newborn was discovered dead inside a dumpster in Texas, the baby’s mother has now been charged with capital murder.
In July 2024, authorities in Fort Worth found the infant inside a suitcase that had been dumped in a trash container, according to reports from WFAA, NBCDFW, and CBS Texas.
Fort Worth police told PEOPLE that the mother, Courtney Minor, was arrested in connection with the case.
Investigators said Minor was spotted rolling a suitcase to a dumpster before discarding it, the outlets reported.
According to police, Minor later admitted that the baby was still alive when she placed the child inside the suitcase and threw it away.
Jail records show Minor is being held on a $500,000 bond. She faces charges of capital murder of a child under 10 and abuse of a corpse without legal authority.
It remains unclear whether she has entered a plea or secured legal representation.
