Authorities in South Carolina have identified the two 23-year-old victims killed in a tragic boating accident on Lake Greenwood in Laurens County on July 6.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Thomas Chandler Davis and Abby Katherine Davis—both recent graduates of Clemson University and a couple—died in the crash, as first reported by FOX Carolina.

According to a statement from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR), the collision involved two vessels: an Alumacraft boat carrying five people and a Yamaha boat with two people on board. The Yamaha vessel reportedly struck the Alumacraft from behind.

Two passengers aboard the Alumacraft—Thomas and Abby Davis—were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were hospitalized with injuries.

The operator of the Yamaha boat has been arrested and faces two felony counts of Boating Under the Influence (BUI), officials said.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims,” SCDNR said. “The incident remains under investigation.”

Clemson Graduates Remembered for Their Spirit and Passions

Abby and Thomas Davis, both born in Greenwood, South Carolina, were beloved by friends and family for their vibrant personalities and shared love of life.

Abby, who graduated from Clemson in 2024, was remembered for her infectious love of music, passion for travel, and adventurous spirit. Her obituary described her as someone who “never met a stranger,” known for her easy-going nature and deep affection for animals—especially her dog, Motley.

Thomas, who studied civil engineering at Clemson, was described as an outdoorsman and fitness enthusiast who cherished time at the gym, on the lake, and with loved ones. “Chandler created memories that will be treasured forever,” his obituary said.

The couple’s sudden passing has left their community in mourning, as friends, family, and fellow Clemson alumni remember two young lives cut tragically short.
