A tragic discovery was made Friday morning when an Ohio State University student was found dead inside the school’s football stadium.

Fire officials in Columbus responded to the scene on Sept. 26 at 9:56 a.m. local time, according to The Columbus Dispatch.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE, the university confirmed the death and identified the student as 19-year-old William Meyers of Fairfield, Conn.

“Foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” the statement read.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The university expressed condolences, adding, “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Counseling and Consultation Services are available for students in need of support by calling 614-292-5766.”

PEOPLE noted that outreach was made to both Ohio State University Police and the Columbus Division of Fire on Sept. 28, though no immediate responses were received.

According to Meyers’ LinkedIn profile, he was a third-year accounting student who co-founded a charity with his brother. The organization collected both new and used sports equipment to donate to local centers.

This incident follows another tragedy at the Ohio State football stadium just a year earlier. In May 2024, NPR reported that 53-year-old Larissa Brady died by suicide during the university’s spring commencement ceremony after a fall from the stands. She had been attending her daughter’s graduation.
