Talk about a memorable coincidence. Two baby boys with strikingly similar names — Myles and Miles — were born just minutes apart and only feet away from each other at the same Florida hospital.

HCA Florida Brandon Hospital in Brandon shared the unusual moment, calling it a “heartwarming coincidence” that happened on the afternoon of Oct. 27.

Myles Retzer, from Riverview, made his debut first at 12:43 p.m. He weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

Only eleven minutes later, at 12:54 p.m., Miles Bartz of Plant City arrived, weighing 4 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 18.5 inches.

Hospital staff said both boys were healthy and ready to head home — but not before the Retzer and Bartz families had a chance to meet each other.

Dr. Emily Richter, an obstetrician at the hospital, said the timing and name match made the moment especially rare.

“In all my years, I can’t recall witnessing two babies with the same name born so close together,” she said. “Birth stories are always memorable, but this is one these families and our team won’t forget.”

Lauren Youngberg, a nurse manager for Women’s Services, added that seeing the families’ reactions was a reminder of the joy that comes with the job.

“Watching the families meet and seeing the joy and surprise in their faces truly made our day,” she said. “It reminds us why we do what we do. This is a moment we will remember and treasure — and who knows, maybe these boys will grow up together or even graduate side-by-side one day.”
