A man and woman were found dead in their Houston home in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide, leaving behind their three young children.
On Monday, Aug. 18, officers responded to a welfare check at a residence on Meadowglen Lane, according to the Houston Police. Inside, they discovered the bodies of a man and woman, both in their 20s.
Three children, ages 1, 2, and 3, were found unharmed. They are now in safe care, police confirmed.
Authorities said officers arrived at the home around 4:15 p.m. and found the children outside with neighbors. The children then led police to their parents’ bodies inside the residence, ABC 13 Eyewitness News reported.
“[The children] were out in an apartment complex parking lot asking for food,” Lt. Larry Crowson said during a press conference, per KHOU 11. “Officers asked where their parents were, and the children said they were in the apartment deceased.”
Neighbors described the children as hungry and distressed. “The oldest one is who hurts me the most because she was vivid in details of what she had witnessed with her parents,” Deborah McMillan told ABC 13 Eyewitness News.
Investigators believe the man shot the woman before taking his own life, possibly a day before their bodies were discovered, according to KHOU 11 and ABC 13 Eyewitness News.

McMillan also said the woman had previously expressed wanting to leave the relationship. “She came over a few times, asking to use the phone,” she told ABC 13 Eyewitness News. “Her main thing is that she didn’t want to leave because of the kids.”
The children were later placed in the care of their grandmother. The investigation remains ongoing.
