Authorities in North Carolina say at least three people were killed and several others injured after a gunman opened fire from a boat at a waterfront restaurant Saturday night.
The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at the American Fish Company, a well-known pub and restaurant located at 150 Yacht Basin Drive in the Southport Yacht Basin area, about 20 miles south of Wilmington.
Police confirmed that at least seven people were struck by gunfire. Three victims died at the scene, while others were rushed to nearby hospitals. Officials have not yet provided updates on their conditions.
Southport City Manager Noah Saldo said a boat pulled up alongside the restaurant and the shooter began firing into the crowd before speeding away. “Several people were taken to the hospital,” he noted, cautioning that numbers could shift as emergency crews continue to respond.
Residents were urged to avoid the area, stay indoors, and report any suspicious activity to 911. A public statement emphasized that while injuries were confirmed, the exact count remained unclear.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office announced it is working with the Southport Police Department and other agencies to manage the ongoing investigation. “Please keep all those affected, as well as our first responders, in your thoughts and prayers,” the office said in a statement.
Unconfirmed reports on emergency scanners suggested additional casualties, though officials have not verified those accounts.
The suspect remains at large as law enforcement continues its search and investigation.
