A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured after being attacked by his grandmother’s dog in New York Mills, Minnesota, on Sunday, Jan. 11.

The child, Beckett Brown, was attacked after climbing into an outdoor enclosure for his grandmother Kristen Nelson’s American bulldog, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by The Independent. Nelson was also injured while trying to intervene and stop the attack.

Authorities said that around 1 p.m., Nelson called 911 and told dispatchers she was driving herself and Beckett to the Perham Health Emergency Room, according to the Echo Press. Deputies met them at the hospital and began investigating what happened. The investigation is ongoing.
