A 4-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a swimming pool while unconscious, despite immediate efforts by family members and emergency responders to revive him.
Police said the incident happened in Bobs Farm, a suburb of Port Stephens in New South Wales, on the evening of Friday, Jan. 9. Emergency services were called at about 7:30 p.m. local time following reports that a young child was unresponsive after being removed from the water.

Family members began CPR until paramedics arrived, police said. It remains unclear exactly where the pool was located or whether it was a private residential pool.
Authorities said the child received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle in critical condition. He later died at the hospital.
Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, police said. A report will be prepared for the coroner. Police have not confirmed whether the boy drowned.
