Nine people, including eight children, were hurt when a bus they were riding overturned in Missouri last week, authorities said.
The crash happened about half a mile from Faucett, Mo., around 3:35 p.m. local time on Friday, Aug. 29, according to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The children injured were between 12 and 16 years old. Most are from Kansas, and one is from Lee’s Summit, Mo. Two of the students were seriously hurt, while the others had minor injuries.
A 44-year-old woman on the bus was also moderately injured.
Video of the crash scene published by ABC affiliate KMBC shows the overturned bus, which belonged to Olivet Baptist Church’s Shawnee Mission Christian School. The station reported the bus had been transporting student athletes to northern Missouri for sports events.
The bus, driven by a 61-year-old man, was traveling northbound on an interstate when the front passenger-side tire blew out, according to the highway patrol. It started to skid, and then the back passenger-side tire also burst. The bus went off the side of the road, hit a ditch, and overturned onto the driver’s side.
A church spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on the crash.
