Meghan Trainor is sharing more about the path that led her to baby No. 3.

The “Still Don’t Care” singer, 32, and husband Daryl Sabara, 33, welcomed a daughter, Mikey Moon, via surrogate on Sunday, Jan. 18. Trainor says the decision came after many discussions with her doctors and was ultimately the safest way for them to continue growing their family.

“It wasn’t our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family,” she says. “We are forever grateful for that option.”

Trainor and Sabara — who married in 2018 — are also parents to sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2, both of whom Trainor carried.

Trainor also hopes to help normalize surrogacy for other families.

“I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family. It’s not something to whisper about or judge. It’s rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork,” she says. “Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.”

She adds that working with their surrogate was a deeply positive experience, and the family has chosen not to publicly identify her.

“Our surrogate is one of the most selfless, strong and loving people I’ve ever met,” Trainor says. “We felt so connected throughout the entire journey, and I’ll always be grateful for the care and love she showed our daughter.”

Trainor announced the news in a Jan. 20 Instagram post, thanking their surrogate and the medical teams involved.

“Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate. We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, teams who made this dream possible,” she wrote, adding that after speaking with doctors throughout the process, surrogacy felt like the safest option for their family.

In the same post, Trainor shared that their two sons have been thrilled about their new sister — and even helped choose her middle name — as the family settles into life as a party of five.

Trainor has previously been open about the difficult moments surrounding her first two pregnancies and postpartum experiences.

After Riley’s birth, her son faced breathing issues and spent time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). In 2023, Trainor shared that she experienced post-traumatic stress disorder after the delivery, describing the shock of being left on the surgical table while Riley and Sabara were rushed to the NICU.

“Usually when you’re being sewn up for 45 minutes, you’re like, ‘Look at my gorgeous baby. We did it. This is everything.’ But I was laying there alone,” she said. Reflecting on it later, she added: “I had to learn how traumatic that was.”

Trainor has also written about hitting a “breaking point” after Barry’s birth, describing the toll on her physical and mental health in a January 2025 essay for Today.com.

“I was alone with Barry and he would not stop crying and then I was crying,” she wrote. “I was having a panic attack and I was just over-exhausted, but I felt like I was dying.”

In that essay, she explained why she chose to share her experience: to remind other moms they aren’t alone and to encourage people to ask for help and seek support.

Despite the challenges, Trainor has said motherhood pushed her toward personal growth — telling a publication in a 2025 feature that her kids made her want to be “the best version” of herself.
