TIPP CITY, Ohio — Newly released body camera footage provides a harrowing look into the minutes following the fatal shooting of Ashley Flynn, an Ohio teacher and wife of former American Idol contestant Caleb Flynn. The video, released Monday by the Tipp City Police Department, captures the 39-year-old husband in a state of apparent collapse—sobbing, hyperventilating, and at one point vomiting—before his arrest days later on murder charges.

Ashley Flynn, 37, was found dead in the couple’s Cunningham Court residence in the early hours of February 16, 2026. Authorities responded to the scene after Caleb Flynn placed a frantic 911 call reporting a home invasion.

“Is She Gone?”: Distressing Moments Inside the Home

The footage, much of which is blurred to protect the privacy of the victim and the couple’s two young daughters, documents the arrival of first responders. Officers are seen navigating the home while Caleb can be heard in the background screaming, “Oh my God,” and repeatedly asking, “Is she gone, sir?”

According to police reports, Ashley Flynn suffered at least two gunshot wounds to the head. While the initial dispatch suggested a burglary in progress, investigators quickly began scrutinizing the scene for inconsistencies.

Key details captured in the footage include:

  • The 911 Narrative: Caleb claimed he found the side door leading to the garage “wide open.”
  • Weapon Disclosure: When questioned by officers, Caleb disclosed he owned a shotgun, a pellet gun, and a handgun, the latter of which he claimed was in the center console of his truck.
  • Emotional Physicality: The video shows Caleb calling his mother to deliver the news, wailing, “Mommy, she’s gone,” before physically collapsing and stumbling while exiting the home.

Arrest and Allegations of a Staged Crime Scene

Despite the initial display of grief, the Tipp City Police Department arrested Caleb Flynn on February 19, just three days after the shooting. Police Chief Greg Adkins stated that the investigation, which included consultation with federal authorities, established probable cause to charge the former reality TV singer.

Caleb Flynn, who appeared on Season 12 of American Idol in 2013, currently faces:

  1. Murder (one count)
  2. Felonious Assault (two counts)
  3. Tampering with Evidence (two counts)

Prosecutors allege that Flynn not only killed his wife but also staged the crime scene to support the narrative of a home invasion. Court records indicate that police noted the center console of his truck—where he claimed his handgun was stored—was found open when they arrived.

Defense Cites “Rush to Judgment”

Flynn has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held at the Miami County Jail on a $2 million bond. His attorney, Patrick Mulligan, has publicly criticized the speed of the arrest, suggesting a “rush to judgment” by law enforcement.

“When the government runs out of leads… and looks at a surviving spouse, the chance of a wrongful conviction increases,” Mulligan said in a statement. He further noted the intense social media scrutiny, calling the publicity surrounding the case unprecedented in his 41-year career.

Community Mourns Beloved Teacher

Ashley Flynn was a prominent figure in the Tipp City community, serving as a middle school volleyball coach and a substitute teacher. The school district described her as a “light” who had a profound impact on students and faculty alike.

The couple’s two daughters, who were asleep in the home at the time of the shooting, are currently being cared for by relatives. A GoFundMe has been established to support the children’s future needs.

What’s Next: A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for February was postponed at the request of the defense to allow for the processing of forensic evidence. Caleb Flynn is expected back in court on March 26, 2026.
