A Connecticut man has been charged with a series of offenses after police say they found a wounded teenager and several dogs—some dead—inside a rented U-Haul parked outside a budget motel.
According to police, officers were called to a Motel 6 in Groton on the morning of Feb. 3 after receiving a report related to animal welfare. When they arrived, they located a U-Haul truck with its windows covered. Inside, officers reported finding a 19-year-old woman and seven dogs.
Authorities said four of the dogs were dead and three were alive. The teenager told police she had been subjected to physical violence and identified a 34-year-old man as the person responsible. Her identity has not been made public, and police have not released details about her medical condition.
The man, later taken into custody by officers, was found nearby, according to police. Authorities said he was carrying suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia, along with multiple identification cards belonging to different women. Police have not publicly explained the circumstances surrounding those items.

He now faces numerous charges, including animal cruelty, cruelty to persons, drug possession, interfering with an officer, operating a vehicle with a suspended license, assault, and reckless endangerment. Court records indicate his bond was initially set at $250,000 in cash and later increased to $500,000. He remains in custody while the case proceeds.
The three surviving dogs were taken by local animal control. Police said the four deceased animals were sent to a state university for necropsies to determine how they died.
Officials have not disclosed whether additional charges could be filed. The investigation remains ongoing, and police said further details will be released as they become available.
