Whoopi Goldberg says she’s too broke to retire — even though reports say she’s worth around $20 million. Now, insiders claim ABC executives are getting frustrated with the longtime The View co-host and may be ready to end her 18-year run.

Ratings for the daytime talk show are still strong, but executives were reportedly shocked when the thrice-divorced Whoopi told Entertainment Tonight, “If you don’t marry well, you gotta keep working.”

That comment followed another eyebrow-raising moment. Back in November 2024, Whoopi — said to earn about $8 million a year as one of TV’s highest-paid women — told viewers: “I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too — I work for a living! If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, OK? So, I’m a working person, you know?”

An ABC insider criticized her recent remarks, saying, “It’s tone-deaf. Everyday people are struggling, and Whoopi’s crying poor on daytime TV. It makes her look completely out of touch.”

But insiders say this is just the latest controversy.

As the National Enquirer reported, Whoopi was suspended from The View for two weeks in February 2022 after claiming the Holocaust — in which Nazis killed more than 6 million Jews — was “not about race.”

In June 2025, the Oscar-winning Ghost actress faced backlash again after she seemed to compare the lives of Black Americans to those of citizens living under Iran’s harsh dictatorship, according to CBN News.

She also drew criticism when she defended comedian Bill Cosby, who denied sexual assault allegations made by more than 60 women. At the time, she said anyone accused is “innocent until proven guilty,” before later withdrawing her support, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In another controversial moment, she argued that filmmaker Roman Polanski’s 1977 sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl — for which he pleaded guilty — wasn’t “rape-rape,” according to the National Organization for Women.

Now, insiders say ABC executives are “seriously considering a refresh — maybe even a full overhaul” of The View.

“Executives are tired of cleaning up her messes,” one insider explained. “Patience is running out.”
