Sydney Hardeman, a devoted Beyoncé fan who became a viral sensation for her wide-eyed reaction during the singer’s 2018 Coachella performance, has died at age 25.

Her mother, Jamie Hardeman, confirmed to TMZ that Sydney died by suicide on Nov. 8. The Dallas native had recently gotten engaged and was planning to be married in April 2026.

Family members told the outlet they noticed changes in her mood after the death of her grandfather. They encouraged her to attend counseling, but she canceled her sessions.

A GoFundMe has been created to honor her memory. “Sydney was one of those rare people who brought light and laughter everywhere she went — confident, hilarious, endlessly kind, and full of life,” wrote organizer Dakota Jenkins on the fundraising page.

She is remembered as “a devoted fiancée” who was deeply passionate and excited about her future. “Sydney meant the world to so many people. Her light, her laughter, and her love will stay with us forever,” the page reads.

Funds raised will go toward minority scholarships and suicide-prevention efforts. The campaign has surpassed $10,000, with a goal of $16,000.

Sydney rose to internet fame when cameras captured her astonished expression during Beyoncé’s headlining Coachella set — a moment later included in Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. In a 2019 interview with BuzzFeed News, she said she’d been a fan since age 13 and was thrilled that her reaction gained attention: “I was so happy to be shown because it means Beyoncé knows my face exists.”

Sydney’s mother shared that her daughter had traveled from Texas to California for the performance, waiting 12 hours at the barricade so she could be among the first inside. She offered a message to young fans: “Lean on your village… sometimes you just need to be vulnerable to the people around you so they can help you.”

She added, “[Sydney] never meant to leave you. She loved all of you. In her name, make sure you guys are OK and find the support when you need it.”
