A Seattle teenager has become a millionaire thanks to a hit card game he dreamed up when he was just seven years old.

Alex Butler, now 15, created Taco vs Burrito after being inspired during family walks, his mom, Leslie Pierson, told Geek Wire.

Leslie — a career entrepreneur who once appeared on Shark Tank — said she initially thought their conversations about the idea would remain purely educational.

“I really did think it was just gonna be a chat about how a product gets made,” she told Geek Wire.

Six months later, the two were still refining the concept. That persistence led Leslie and Alex’s dad, Mark Butler, to launch a Kickstarter campaign to bring the game to life.

They eventually formed a business, making Alex the majority shareholder, according to The Seattle Times. Starting with independent sales on Amazon, the game sold out in just a week and quickly became one of the platform’s top-ranked products.

Since its debut, Taco vs Burrito has sold 1.5 million copies on Amazon. The game challenges players to create the “weirdest and wildest” meal possible, using cards like “Food Fight,” “Tummy Ache,” and “Trash Panda,” as described on its official website. Designed for 2–4 players ages six and up, each round lasts about 10 minutes.

After more than five years of managing the game’s manufacturing and distribution themselves, the family decided to sell the company in a full buyout to Wisconsin-based PlayMonster. Details of the sale have not been disclosed.

For Alex, the decision to sell was straightforward.

“It was never something that I’ve been attached to or anything. It’s not super important to me. I just kind of wanted to get the most money out of it,” he told The Seattle Times. “It was never something I wanted to do later in life.”

Now, Alex — who enjoys sports, music production, and video games — is working with his parents to invest the profits. Still, he jokingly told them he plans to buy a Lamborghini, Leslie told PEOPLE.
