Ashley Flynn’s family is speaking publicly following her tragic death.

Days after Caleb Flynn, a former American Idol contestant, was arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his wife at their home in Ohio, Ashley’s family shared a statement expressing their grief.

“Our hearts are shattered,” the family said. “Ashley brought endless light into our lives, and we are trying to cope with this overwhelming loss. We believe this arrest was made carefully and with serious consideration.”

They added, “After speaking with both local and federal authorities, we trust that the proper procedures were followed and that the case is being handled appropriately. We respectfully ask for privacy as we navigate this difficult and complex situation. We are holding on to our faith, just as Ashley did every day.”

Ashley, a mother of two daughters, was pronounced dead on Feb. 16 at the age of 37. Police responded after Caleb Flynn, 39, called authorities, reporting what he claimed was a burglary at their residence in Tipp City.

In the nearly eight-minute emergency call, the caller can be heard saying, “Somebody broke into my home and killed my wife. Please hurry.”

The caller also stated that Ashley had been shot multiple times, later adding that she had suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Three days later, Caleb Flynn was taken into custody. According to court records, he was charged with murder, two counts of felonious assault, and two counts of tampering with evidence. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and is being held on a $2 million bond.

Since the arrest, Flynn’s attorney, L. Patrick Mulligan, said his client intends to fight the charges.

“We are disappointed and concerned about what appears to be a rushed judgment in this case,” Mulligan said. “When investigators struggle to develop leads and focus on a surviving spouse, the risk of a wrongful conviction can increase.”

Caleb Flynn previously appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2013. During an interview on the show, he spoke enthusiastically about his love for music and his wife.

“I love my wife more than anything,” he said at the time.

Ashley Flynn is remembered by many in her community for her contributions as a volleyball coach at Tippecanoe Middle School and as a substitute teacher at Lifewise Academy.

In a social media tribute, Tipp City Schools described her as someone known for “her beautiful smile, warmth, kindness, and the positive impact she had on so many students.”

A GoFundMe campaign created to support Ashley’s daughters described her as “a devoted wife, an incredible mother, and a cherished daughter, sister, and friend.”

“Her laughter was contagious, she was a constant source of encouragement, and she cared deeply for others,” the fundraiser stated.
