A Massachusetts man struck it rich with some very personal — and unconventional — lucky numbers.
Sylvester Semedo of Weymouth won a $300,000 jackpot in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s Mass Cash game by playing the same set of numbers three times on a single ticket, according to a lottery news release.
What made his picks special? The numbers were based on the only floors the elevator used to stop on at his former workplace.
“He won his prizes with a set of numbers he regularly plays that represent the only floors his old work building’s elevator used to stop on,” lottery officials said.
Semedo matched all five winning numbers in the Mass Cash drawing held on Thursday, June 26. He bought the lucky ticket at Jenny’s Market on Middle Street in Weymouth. The store will receive a $3,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
As for what he plans to do with his windfall, Semedo told officials he’s treating himself to an away game to cheer on the Boston Red Sox.
His story joins a growing list of Massachusetts lottery winners who’ve used nostalgic or sentimental numbers to hit it big. In a similar case last year, Kevin Connor of Leicester won a $2.64 million Megabucks jackpot with a number combo made up of his wife’s old landline and her favorite number — digits he’d been playing for 30 years.
Connor told officials at the time that he planned to use the money for his children’s college tuition — and, jokingly, a new pair of socks.
Sometimes, it turns out your lucky numbers might just be hidden in your daily routine.
