A woman is reconsidering whether her cousin should attend her wedding — all because the cousin has a habit of transforming family events into her own staged photo sessions.

In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum, the bride-to-be explained that her 28-year-old cousin consistently derails gatherings with elaborate setups. According to her, the cousin “always turns everything into a photo shoot.”

“She isn’t even a professional influencer, but she arrives at every family event with a ring light, tripod and multiple outfit changes,” the bride wrote. “She makes everyone redo ‘candid’ shots until she looks perfect.”

To show she wasn’t exaggerating, the Redditor shared a recent incident: her cousin halted her parents’ anniversary cake-cutting because “the lighting was bad.”
While she cares about her cousin, she doesn’t want that kind of disruption at her wedding. “I love her, but I don’t want that energy at my wedding,” she said.

Her family, however, disagrees.
“My mom says I’m being petty and that ‘family is family,’ but I just want a normal, camera-free celebration and not become an extra in her unsolicited reels,” she wrote. Her mother has also called her “selfish” for prioritizing comfort over family unity.

The bride added that she doesn’t want to “hurt her feelings and create drama,” but she’s struggling to find a compromise.

Fellow Reddit users understood her frustration but offered alternatives that don’t involve excluding the cousin entirely. Many recommended setting “very direct” boundaries about camera usage and asking the wedding photographer, planner or security to monitor her cousin to keep things under control.

“Assign a trusted family member to make sure she stays in line. You don’t want to be correcting her yourself,” one commenter advised.

Others suggested announcing an unplugged ceremony or placing signs that request guests keep phones and cameras away during key moments.

Redditors largely agreed that a frank discussion needs to happen before the wedding.
One user wrote: “Talk to her and explain exactly what won’t be allowed. She will be asked to leave if she records anything, changes outfits for non-emergency reasons or interferes with the photographer or videographer in any way.”
