Bridesmaid Rushed to Emergency Room After Shocking Freak Accident During Wedding Reception

A Texas wedding took an unexpected turn when bridesmaid Hannah Buresh attempted a dance stunt that left her seriously injured — and TikTok couldn’t look away.

The viral clip, which has racked up over 32 million views and is set to Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’,” shows Buresh falling hard after an ambitious dance lift with her husband on Friday, Oct. 17. The impact resulted in a broken clavicle and a rushed orthopedic surgery the following morning.

Buresh says the bride, Rachel Smith, encouraged her to energize the dance floor — a challenge she eagerly accepted. After multiple rounds of the worm, she and her husband decided to show off a signature line-dancing move, even though they hadn’t practiced it in about a year.

That split-second decision went wrong when she slipped from her husband’s hands and crashed backward onto the floor, striking her head, neck, collarbone and wrist.

“I just went down,” she recalls. “I remember thinking, ‘Don’t put your hands out because you’ll break both your arms. Tuck your head.’ Then I blacked out.”

Instead of waiting for an ambulance, the couple opted for a long drive to the nearest hospital — about an hour and a half away.

In a widely viewed follow-up video from the emergency room, Buresh wore a neck brace and explained that her husband had to help her pump breast milk because she could barely move her arms. “It’s wild,” she says.

Despite the injury, she remains grateful things weren’t worse. What upset her most was missing the remainder of the celebration, including the after-party.

“I was just bummed to be missing the wedding more than anything,” she says. “I felt like it was my Super Bowl.”

To stay connected to the festivities, she watched the sparkler send-off via FaceTime, and her mom helped keep the dance floor alive.

Wedding vendors, including the DJ and planner, later reached out to express their concern and wish her a speedy recovery.

At first, Buresh — who trains in MMA — assumed she had simply dislocated her shoulder and thought she could “pop it back in place.” Fortunately, she didn’t try. Doctors later told her the break was close to piercing the skin, making surgery necessary. She now has a plate and four screws in her clavicle and is expected to undergo another procedure in about five months.

With strict lifting limits — no more than a pound for now, and no more than five pounds until the next surgery — caring for her 20-pound baby has become especially challenging.

Doctors estimate it may take a full year before she feels completely back to normal.

The viral attention has been a surprise, she says — especially the number of viewers focused on her outfit. At the time of the fall, she had already changed from her bridesmaid dress into pajamas to make pumping easier.

“I was glad I was in the PJs because they had to cut them off of me at the hospital,” she says. “Good thing I wasn’t wearing the bridesmaid dress.”

Looking ahead, Buresh plans to keep her dance moves a little more grounded, though she admits she’ll still bring the energy at her sister’s and best friend’s upcoming weddings.

“I think everyone will have their eyes on me and won’t let me do anything too crazy,” she jokes. “But it’s a dance party — you’ve got to go hard. Maybe just no more stunts.”
